 Staying Connected

Living abroad in a post-Covid world is interesting.

The world came together in 2020 as we all shifted online.

This made our new life in Prague feel normal.

You see, we had moved abroad only 4.5 months before the world went into lockdown. We already had the tools to stay connected online with people back in the states. This connection only got stronger once we were all stuck at home with nowhere to go.

It didn’t matter that we were across the world. We weren’t physically seeing people and neither were our friends and family. It was easy to keep in touch.

As time went on, life shifted. For everyone.

We spent most of 2021 in the states living with family and housesitting. We were able to connect with some, but not all, of our friends and family.

Life felt different, especially after we returned to Prague in September.

We still have the same tools — social media, Zoom, FaceTime, Messenger — yet, we are less connected in 2022 post-Covid. (I am talking about my specific family, but I think it could apply to you too.)

The science part of me thinks it’s burnout. That everyone wants to get back to real life. Living in the now feels more real when it’s not done on a screen.

My question is — how do you stay connected when you are an ocean and seven time zones away? Seems like hard work.

Adam and I never shied away from a challenge. What about you?

Much love,
Carly

PS My favorite way to connect is through Telegram.
